News Story
Applications are now open for the Academy’s Glover-Edwards 2026-27 Programme for women conductors.
Launched in 2018, the Glover-Edwards Programme was created with the aim of bridging the gap between undergraduate and postgraduate study and, ultimately, encouraging more women to take their place on the podium. In 2023, it was reported that just 11.2% of conductors represented by artist managers were female. Although this is an increase on previous years, there is clearly more work to do to address this gender imbalance.
The camaraderie between us all made for the most productive learning environment I’ve ever experienced.
The programme has achieved significant momentum, and the Academy is proud to have seen previous participants lead orchestras on prestigious stages. Recent programme alums include Charlotte Corderoy, Dorothy Khadem-Missagh and Margarita Balanas, all of whom are forging significant international careers.
My life has been changed by coming here
These achievements show that the programme is not only supporting artists of the highest calibre but is also creating visible role models and driving change across the sector.
Every minute on the podium was truly precious.
'The Glover-Edwards Programme continues to make great strides, and we can see the impact that it has had in addressing gender imbalance in postgraduate conducting course applications, and by extension, the profession.'
The Glover‑Edwards Conducting Programme has been philanthropically led since its inception, thanks to early investment from Cristiana Falcone and the BECS Foundation. The Bentley foundation also joins in 2026 as part of a flagship foundation with the Academy.
Applications for the Glover-Edwards 2026-27 intake open today and close on Friday 26 June.
