At the Academy, some applicants are invited or choose to submit a video audition instead of attending in person, or may be required to as round one of their assessment process.

Video auditions are treated in exactly the same way as live auditions. They are assessed by the same panels and carry equal weight in admissions decisions and scholarship awards.

Who video submissions are for

You may submit a video audition or assessment if:

  • your course or department requires it
  • you are applying to audition at an international centre (see your course for more information)
  • you are unable to attend in person
  • you would prefer this format due to personal circumstances

If you are unsure whether a video audition is appropriate for you, contact our admissions team who can advise at admissions@ram.ac.uk.

Accessibility

We recognise that recording an audition at home may present practical challenges.

If any of the guidance on this page is difficult for you to meet due to disability, health, caring responsibilities or access to equipment, we can make adjustments.

This may include:

  • alternative formats for the spoken introduction
  • flexibility around recording conditions or setup
  • support with submission requirements

Please contact us at to discuss your situation. Using a video audition will not disadvantage your application.

What you need to submit

Your Acceptd profile should include:

  • A short introduction (see below)
  • Your performance recordings or portfolio
  • A list of works performed
  • Any required written work (for relevant postgraduate courses)

Spoken introduction

You’ll need to record a short introduction (3 to 5 minutes).

Tell us:

  • your name
  • your musical background
  • your ambitions
  • why you’re applying to your chosen course

If speaking in English presents a barrier, please contact us to discuss how we can assist.

Performance recordings

There are specific repertoire requirements depending on your course.

See more: course finder.

In general:

  • provide your video content in a horizontal format (not vertical)
  • follow the published audition requirements for your course
  • recordings may be continuous or separate, depending on the course
  • accompaniment should be included where required (this can be a ‘minus-one’ track if you are unable to get an accompanist)

The panel is assessing your performance, not the production quality of your recording.

Recording your audition: what matters most

Essential

  • Clear audio (this is the priority)
  • You and your instrument clearly visible
  • Accurate representation of your performance

Helpful (but optional)

  • Good lighting (natural or artificial)
  • A simple, uncluttered background
  • A stable camera position

If you cannot meet all of these conditions, submit the best recording you can. This will not negatively affect how your performance is assessed.

Submitting your recordings

We use Acceptd to receive your recordings and application materials.

Set up your account

  • Use the same email address as your UCAS Conservatoires application
  • Enter your name in the same format as in your UCAS conservatoires application

Upload your files

  • Upload video files directly to Acceptd
  • We do not accept links to YouTube, Dropbox or other platforms

Before you submit
