Academy Regulations
The Academy’s Regulations are updated on an annual basis to ensure that they remain fit for purpose as a key tool in maintaining academic governance and standards.
New and returning students should familiarise themselves with the current version of the Regulations to ensure that they understand the implications of any changes that have taken place since the last academic year.
Access and Participation Plan
The Academy has successfully registered with the Office for Students (OfS). This enables us to access public grants such as government funding for teaching or research, access student support funding, maintain our licence to recruit international students and maintain our right to award our own degrees.

Admissions
The Academy operates robust, fair and transparent procedures for application and admission to its programmes of study.
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning
We use Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) to recognise skills you've gained through work or professional experience that might not be reflected in formal qualifications.
Artificial Intelligence
This policy applies to all staff, students and external partners, and sets out the principles and controls governing the ethical, safe and effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI across the Academy.
Alcohol and Drug Misuse
We make every reasonable effort to ensure that the welfare and activities of others are not put at risk by the misuse of alcohol or illegal/controlled substances.
Attendance Monitoring
The Academy employs robust monitoring procedures to ensure that students attend and engage with all aspects of their programmes of study.
Code of Conduct and Statement on Respect
The code of conduct outlines the norms, rules, and responsibilities expected of all members of the Academy community.
Degree Outcomes Statement
The degree outcomes statement contains and explains: the institutional degree classification profile; assessment and marking practices; academic governance; classification algorithms; teaching practices and learning resources; good practices and action; risk and challenges.
Environmental and Sustainability
The Academy seeks to conduct its operations in a manner that will meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
The Academy recognises that a diverse community of staff and students affords artistic, educational, social and organisational benefits.
We are committed to promoting an environment which values diversity, and which identifies and removes barriers that prevent people from fulfilling their potential within the Academy.
Examination Procedures
The Academy’s Examination Procedures contain operational guidance and information for students, staff and specialist external assessors on all aspects of practical and written assessment
Freedom of Speech
The Royal Academy of Music recognises its responsibility to provide safeguards to ensure freedom of speech within the law.
Fundraising Complaints Policy
Gift Acceptance
The Royal Academy of Music is subject to charity law in the UK and adheres to the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice and Charity Commission guidelines on the acceptance of gifts.
Harassment and Sexual Misconduct
We are committed to ensuring that all members of our community are able to work and learn in an environment free from harassment and sexual misconduct.
We take incidents of harassment and/or sexual misconduct seriously. Such behaviours are contrary to the Office for Students definitions where it relates to Higher Education, the Equality Act 2010, Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and Worker Protection Act 2023, and in certain circumstances may constitute a criminal offence.
All students and staff will be supported to raise concerns at the earliest opportunity.

Human Resources
The HR Department is responsible for all aspects of staffing, from recruiting vacant posts to maintaining policies and procedures in relation to new legislation. It is the first point of contact for any employment related queries.

Quality Assurance
The Academy’s Quality Assurance procedures outline the principles, procedures and processes involved in our quality assurance and enhancement activities.
These have been developed in accordance with the expectations set out in the UK Quality Code for Higher Education.
These procedures are monitored annually to ensure they remain appropriate and robust for a small specialist institution.

Risk Management
The Academy has developed a risk management strategy to ensure that it achieves its strategic aims within a system of internal controls.
The strategy explains the Academy’s underlying approach to risk management and documents the role of the Governing Body and the Senior Management Team.
