Details of the main audition session for joining Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in September 2013 will be found in our Key Dates list in due course. We expect candidates to be available to attend during the relevant period: remember that we do not audition all studies on each day of the session.

International Candidates
If you live in Europe, you must audition in London. Other international candidates are strongly advised to do likewise. Auditions for some studies are also held in North America and Asia.

Audition requirements
Please see the relevant department pages for specific details on auditions for your own instrument or specialism. It is not normally permitted to audition twice for the same study during the same admissions session. In most cases, auditions will last from 20-30 minutes. As time is limited, you may be interrupted before you have performed a complete piece. You may be given sight-reading or quick study tests. Instrumentalists may be asked to play scales, arpeggios, etc to ABRSM Grade 8 standard.

Musicianship and keyboard skills tests may be required of all prospective undergraduates, who are also asked to bring a short piano piece to demonstrate their level of keyboard skills.

Written paper: all undergraduate candidates are required to take a 50-minute written paper which comprises harmonisation of a short melody and a choice of short essay questions of a general musical nature. The Academy regrets that it cannot issue specimen papers.

Accompanists
Whilst the Academy provides a pool of accompanists for the London auditions in December, and an accompanist is normally available at our New York auditions, you are strongly advised to bring your own. If you cannot do this, there is no charge for using an Academy accompanist, and you will be allocated a short rehearsal with them immediately before your audition time.

Disabled candidates
If you have indicated that you will need some help or particular arrangements, the Registry will normally contact you before the audition to discuss these arrangements. The Academy ensures that people with disabilities are not put to any disadvantage, and are not treated any less favourably than other students, staff and members of the public. Information disclosed to the Academy by students or staff will be treated in confidence and every effort will be made to meet individuals' needs within the Academy.

Audition Results
The Registry will notify you of the result of your audition by letter as soon as possible after the Admissions Board has met at the end of the audition session. We regret we cannot give any results by phone or email.

If you are placed on a reserve list, we will endeavour to contact you as soon as we have any further news.

If you decide that you do not want to accept our offer of a study place, or do not wish to be kept on the Academy’s reserve list, please email the Admissions Officer in the Registry Office.

All offers made are conditional upon you achieving the Academy's educational and language requirements (see Entry Requirements).
