Musicians can expand their theoretical knowledge and practical learning with the help of Academy specialists from summer 2026, in a series of short courses open to members of the public.
Participants can build their knowledge and application of music theory in the ABRSM Grade 5 Theory short course. This course will be suitable for students seeking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of music theory, in preparation for passing the ABRSM Grade 5 theory exam.
This course will be open to ages 11 – 17 years old and participants will need to have knowledge of music theory to approximately Grade 3. This will run as a 5-day summer intensive, and as a 10-week evening course in the autumn.
The Academy will also be running a Flute Day with Carla Rees, exploring the versatility of the flute. This workshop will be led by Carla Rees, Professor of Low Flutes and Contemporary Flute at the Academy.
This course will be open to adults over the age of 18 and there will be a recommended playing standard of Grade 7 or above, with reasonably good sightreading skills desired but not essential.
