The annual SSSSPOTY competition took place at the Sondheim Theatre on Sunday 8 June, hosted by Rosalie Craig. 12 finalists from conservatoires across the country competed, including Georgia and fellow Academy student Georgie Lagden. Each performed a classic Sondheim number and one piece chosen from a catalogue of new musicals, an initiative led by composer Darren Clark to support new British musical theatre writing.

Georgia took home the £1,000 First Prize for her performances of ‘Losing My Mind’ from Follies and ‘Watchin’ the Door’ by Wigmore & Green. For winning the competition, Georgia will also have the chance to headline her own Sondheim-infused cabaret in London.

'Georgia was the first student the judges heard in the heats stages, and it was clear from the beginning that she would be the one to beat.'

Craig Glenday, Chairman of The Stephen Sondheim Society

The SSSSPOTY competition celebrates both the work of Stephen Sondheim and upcoming musical theatre talent in the UK. Georgia’s win is the third time in four years an Academy student has taken First Prize, following the successes of Desmonda Cathabel and Madeleine Morgan in 2022 and 2024 respectively.

Georgia will be performing in the Royal Academy Musical Theatre Company's production of Nine this week.

The Academy would like to congratulate both Georgia and Georgie on their successes in this competition.
