Annemarie Federle and Norberto Lopez join the Brass Department

We are pleased to announce that celebrated musicians Annemarie Federle and Norberto Lopez will join the Brass Department as Visiting Artist in Performance Mentoring and Horn Professor respectively.
Annemarie Federle currently holds the position of Principal Horn for Aurora Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra (a position offered to her while she was studying at the Academy). She regularly appears as guest principal with other major UK orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Philharmonia.
Annemarie has enjoyed a diverse solo career, performing concertos with leading orchestras and as a chamber musician. She regularly works as a session musician and can be heard playing on various soundtracks such as Wonka, The Little Mermaid, Citadel and Mission Impossible.
I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue my relationship with the Academy, having had four very enjoyable years studying there. I am looking forward to being a Visiting Artist and performing for and alongside the current cohort of horn students.
Before joining the Philharmonia as Joint Principal Horn, Norberto Lopez performed with several leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Spanish National Orchestra. During his studies, Norberto was twice awarded the Diploma for Most Outstanding Student by Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain.
As a chamber musician, he has performed at venues such as Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall, the Hitzacker and Interlaken festivals and has collaborated with the Wigmore Soloists and members of the Philharmonia Orchestra, among others.
Alongside his performing career, Norberto is committed to teaching, regularly giving masterclasses internationally and having previously taught at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the University of Oxford and the Barenboim–Said Akademie.
It is a real privilege to join the Royal Academy of Music as Professor of Horn. I look forward to working with exceptional young musicians, helping them grow as artists while continuing to learn alongside colleagues whom I have long admired.
I am delighted that both Annemarie Federle and Norberto Lopez will be joining the Brass Department in autumn 2026. Their experience, musical integrity and deep commitment to fostering young talent will benefit the students enormously and set the standard for excellence at the highest levels.
