The Academy is proud that for the second year in a row, half of the exceptional young artists awarded the LSO Conservatoire Scholarship are current students.

Academy students Alice Abram (cello), Jordan Ashman (percussion), Milda Daunoraite (piano), Sadra Mahshidfar (piano) and Jonasz Szachtmajer (violin) are the latest Academy musicians to join the LSO’s prestigious programme, which each year welcomes a new cohort of ten postgraduate students from the world’s top conservatoires.

Created in partnership with philanthropists and music lovers Alex and Elena Gerko, the LSO Conservatoire Scholarships programme exists to ensure that oustanding talent is not prevented from flourishing because of economic circumstance. The programme provides grants of up to £16,000 per academic year towards living and maintenance costs, alongside mentoring, career guidance and professional development opportunities from members of the London Symphony Orchestra.

This life-changing support means so much to me and my family and will allow me to focus fully on my studies and music making. I am especially looking forward to learning from the incredible musicians of the LSO and being part of such inspiring and exciting opportunities that would not have been possible for me without this support.

The scholarship programme is part of the Emerging Artists strand of LSO Discovery, the LSO’s learning and community programme, which provides a wide range of inspiring and inclusive opportunities for performers, creators and participants from all backgrounds.

At the Academy, over £5 million is awarded annually in scholarships and bursaries to 83% of students. The Royal Academy of Music is fully committed to ensuring the widest possible access to our training, and we actively fundraise so that we can mitigate the challenges posed by studying and pursuing a career in music.
