Programme Details
A fabulous pairing of two of the most explosive scores of the early 20th century.
To celebrate Ravel’s 125th birthday, the concert opens with La Valse arranged by the composer for two pianos (1919-1920). A chilling, brilliantly conceived social commentary on the Great War, it’s an apocryphal take on the Imperial Viennese waltz - and an absolute showstopper.
The Rite of Spring - one of the most elemental scores of last century - started life as a four-hand piano duet, before its controversial first performance with Ballets Russes in Paris in 1913. Here it is for two pianos, arranged by Vyacheslav Gryaznov.
