Stephane was a scholar at King’s College, Cambridge, afterwards pursuing composition full time

His compositions reassess various social dynamics of performance. Recent work includes:

Encore for orchestra (CBSO)
Remarks for choir of 16
Kreng for string quartet (Ligeti Quartet)
Threads for chamber ensemble, singers, dancers (rites)

In 2016, alongside Rachel Stroud and Zephyr Brüggen, Stephane cofounded ’rites’, a musical and theatrical collective which questions and challenges rituals and conventions of the concert hall.

Stephane is in demand increasingly for his work on Messiaen and Beethoven. He currently sits on the committee for the Beethoven2020 festival as the New Music Coordinator. Other research interests include Musical Analysis (especially Schenkerian methods), C20th Italian music (Berio) and C17-18th English satire (Hogarth).

In 2019 Stephane returned to Cambridge and to King’s again to begin work on a PhD, researching the relationship between composition today and order, with particular focus on notions of imprisonment. Here he also supervises undergraduates (Analysis; Tonal Skills; Orchestration). Stephane has taught at Junior Academy, RAM since 2018.
