Simon is the longest-serving Principal Timpanist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra

Simon joined the LPO in 2002 and over the course of a 40 year career has worked with all of the world's major conductors and soloists. He has played with most of the orchestras in the UK, as well as the World Orchestra for Peace, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

He studied at the RCM and, after winning the Gold Medal in the 1988 Shell/LSO Competition, joined the LSO in 1991, becoming Junior Principal Timpani and Percussion in 1995.

Simon also plays with the LSO Percussion Ensemble and has done arrangements for them including Duet Suite and Kato’s Revenge, as well as a number of arrangements for brass ensemble.
