Silvia Careddu
International Visiting Professor of Flute
Silvia is currently Principal Flute of the Orchestre National de France, and has previously held the same position with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Philharmoniker.
She has also appeared as guest principal with leading orchestras including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Budapest Festival Orchestra.
International recognition followed her unanimous First Prize and Audience Prize at the Concours International de Musique de Genève, which led to an invitation from Lorin Maazel to join the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini.
She is regularly invited to major international festivals as a soloist and chamber musician, including the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Cartagena Festival, the Festival des Arcs, the Bürgenstock Festival, the Australian National Academy of Music, the Festival de Pollença, the Festival de Salon, the Musiktage Mondsee, Riva del Garda, the Hitzacker Festival, Flautissimo, the Festival de Colmar and Styriarte, Académie de Villecroze.
She is Professor at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and previously taught at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” and the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin.
Frequently engaged as a juror at major international competitions (Geneva, A. Nicolet, Premio C.Abbado, M. Larrieu, Crusell, Prague Spring, Kobe, C. Nielsen), she also gives masterclasses throughout Europe, Asia and the United States.
Born in Cagliari, Italy, she studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she graduated with distinction, and acknowledges the artistic influence of A. Nicolet, E. Pahud, R. Guiot, F. Souchard and S. Cherrier.
