Robert Looman
Professor of Piccolo
Robert was appointed principal piccolo with the Philharmonia Orchestra in 2023
Robert studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Malmö Academy of Music, where he trained with Richard Davis, Linda Verrier, Anders Ljungar-Chapelon and Joanne Boddington.
After graduating with numerous prizes, he established a successful freelance career, performing with many of the UK’s leading ensembles.
In 2023, he was appointed Principal Piccolo of the Philharmonia Orchestra, and shortly afterwards joined the faculty of the Royal Academy of Music. He now enjoys a varied international career, combining performing, recording and teaching.
