Raymond Connell

Australian baritone, Raymond has spent over 35 years transforming voices through artistry, science, and holistic vocal mastery.
Raymond is an internationally recognised teacher of singing whose work has shaped singers performing on the world’s leading opera and concert stages. With more than three decades of experience in elite vocal training, performance, and rehabilitation, he is acclaimed for a distinctive pedagogical approach that unites technical precision, somatic awareness, vocal science, psychology, and artistic freedom.
Raymond specialises in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged or inefficient vocal technique and is widely sought after by professional singers, emerging artists, and teachers for his ability to restore vocal function while unlocking individual artistic identity. His teaching integrates multidisciplinary influences including structural integration therapy, speech science, performance practice, and holistic vocal pedagogy, creating a highly individualised and transformative approach to vocal development.
As well as his work at The Royal Academy of Music, Connell mentors singers and pedagogues at the highest professional level, guiding artists whose careers now extend to major international houses including Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera National de Paris, Glyndebourne, Bayreuth, Opera Australia, and the Vienna State Opera. His students have also achieved distinction in leading international competitions including Cardiff Singer of the World, Neue Stimmen, the Kathleen Ferrier Awards, and the Metropolitan Opera Competition.
Alongside his academic career, Connell has worked as a recitalist, vocal adviser, and coach for film, television, and recording projects, and has presented internationally on holistic and integrative voice training. Awarded Honorary ARAM in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Academy, he continues to influence a new generation of singers and teachers through his work in London, Zürich, Australia and internationally.
