Paul Beniston
BA, MMus, ARCM, FTCL, Hon ARAM Thomas Harper Professor of TrumpetPaul Beniston has been Principal Trumpet with the London Philharmonic Orchestra since 1994, and has taught at the Royal Academy of Music since 2011.
Paul started to play the cornet at Gillingham Salvation Army at yhe agebof 7 and was subsequently a member of the Kent County Youth Orchestra and European Community Youth Orchestra. After graduating with a music degree from Bristol University, he completed a masters degree in performance studies at the Royal College of Music.
Following four years as joint Principal Trumpet at English National Opera, he joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he has featured on numerous recordings, including Mahler's 5th Symphony (Jaap van Zweden), Shostakovich's 1st Piano Concerto (Martin Helmchen piano, Vladimir Jurowski conductor), Karl Jenkin's "The Armed Man", The Lord of the Rings, and 205 national anthems for the 2012 London Olympics! He also played on the original Champions League anthem.
Paul taught at the Royal College of Music from 1995-2011 before moving to RAM. He also teaches at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
