Saxophonist, composer/arranger, teacher, Matt played music from as early as he can remember, falling in love with the saxophone and jazz at age 13

Originally hailing from the North Yorkshire Moors, London-based saxophonist and Dankworth Prize-winning composer Matt Anderson released his third album, ‘The Town and the City’ in 2022.

The son of a music teacher and based in Leeds for a time, Matt moved to London in 2015 to study at the Academy where he now coaches Junior Jazz ensembles.

Becoming part of the fertile jazz scene in the capital, he has since performed with artists and bands such as Greg Hutchinson (with the Jiannis Pavlidis Quintet), Ivo Neame, the Gareth Lockrane and Calum Gourlay big bands, Jamie Doe’s Magic Lantern and Hannes Riepler.

Rooted in a deep love and respect for the jazz tradition from Sonny Rollins to Wayne Shorter as well as various rhythmic traditions from around the world, Matt’s music also explores more pastoral, spacious and folk-influenced sounds.
