Katy Furmanski is a double bassist, passionate about teaching and education work.
She has experience in teaching double bass students of all ages and stages, from complete beginners aged 6 to 60+, to young people about to embark on their conservatoire journeys.
Katy finds enjoyment in teaching each student as an individual and likes to work with a wide range of musical genres to foster a love of music, no matter what a pupil’s aspirations are for their double bass studies. As well as teaching, Katy is a core member of the 14-piece Kidenza orchestra which delivers orchestral concerts and workshops in state schools. With a freelance career as an orchestral double bassist, Katy works with the London Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, City of London Sinfonia, and many more.
Regularly making appearances at London’s most prestigious studios, Katy has played on numerous film and TV soundtracks over the past decade. Alongside the more traditional orchestral work Katy enjoys working with various smaller chamber and contemporary ensembles such as London Sinfonietta, Ensemble Reza, the Berkeley Ensemble, and she was previously a regular on tour with Nigel Kennedy's Orchestra of Life.
