He collaborates with a wide range of artists including Benjamin Appl, Jamie Barton, Ian Bostridge, Allan Clayton, Lise Davidsen, the Elias and Heath Quartets, Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Timothy Ridout, Adam Walker, and Pretty Yende at venues worldwide.

James is a frequent guest at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Vancouver Playhouse, Berlin Konzerthaus, Vienna Musikverein, the Barbican Centre, Wiener Konzerthaus, Bozar Brussels, Pierre Boulez Saal, Cologne Philharmonie, and the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. Festivals include Aix-en-Provence, Aldeburgh, Bergen, Edinburgh, Schleswig-Holstein and Verbier.

An innovative programmer, he has curated many projects for the Brighton Festival, Wigmore Hall, BBC Radio 3, and Verbier Festival. James has a critically acclaimed discography, and has recorded for Alpha, Chandos, Decca, Opus Arte, Signum and Sony Classical.

James is Senior Professor of Ensemble Piano at the Academy, a coach for the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme (Royal Opera House), a course leader for the Samling Foundation and head of the Song Program at the Atelier Lyrique of the Verbier Festival Academy. He is also a trustee of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.

Highly sought after for masterclasses worldwide, recent sessions include Aldeburgh Festival, Cleveland Institute of Music, Juilliard School, Metropolitan Opera Lindemann YAP and the University of Waikato, New Zealand.
