Eric Aubier
Hon RAM International Visiting Professor of Trumpet
Eric Aubier began his musical studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at the age of 14 under the guidance of Maurice André.
He quickly became the youngest graduate of this institution with three first prizes, and also won international competitions in Prague and Toulon.
At 19, Eric was appointed principal trumpet of the Paris Opera Orchestra by Rolf Liebermann. Following this, he dedicated himself fully to an international concert and teaching career. He launched his career with an exceptional recording of French concertos by Henri Tomasi, André Jolivet, and Alfred Désenclos with the Paris Opera Orchestra, which has since become authoritative worldwide.
Eric Aubier has created and recorded about fifteen concertos by contemporary composers, stimulating the composition of works by Thierry Escaich, Karol Beffa, Martin Matalon, and Nicolas Bacri. He has also recorded concertos by neo-classical composers Arvo Pärt and Jaan Rääts. These collaborations have significantly enriched the trumpet repertoire.
Eric currently teaches at the Haute École de Musique Vaud/Valais/Fribourg à Lausanne, the CRR de Rueil-Malmaison. He is visiting Professor at Beijing China Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was made an Honorary Doctor in 2016. He regularly gives international master classes, including at the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute, and in various institutions across Korea, Japan, China, South America, and Europe. Eric Aubier inspires new generations of trumpeters worldwide through his performances and teaching. Some of his students are now professors at the two CNSMs and soloists in major orchestras.
His discography includes over 200 works, with recordings awarded the Diapason d'Or, Choc de Classica, and Record Geijutsu. His contributions to the trumpet repertoire, from baroque to contemporary, are internationally recognized, especially his recordings for prestigious labels such as Sony Classical, Universal, and IndéSENS Calliope, for whom he exclusively records.
Eric Aubier is regularly invited to sit on the juries of international competitions, reflecting his status as an iconic figure in the world of the trumpet. International competitions bearing his name in Latin America and France attest to his considerable influence.
Eric Aubier is an inspiring figure in the world of classical music, perpetuating the tradition of the French trumpet while pushing the boundaries of the repertoire through his commitment to contemporary music.
