Anna Stegmann
Professor of Recorder (Historical Performance)
Anna Stegmann is a passionate performer and teacher of early and contemporary recorder music.
She is also a regular guest-teacher at the Royal Northern College of Music Juniors department and the Wells Catherdral School.
Anna enjoys teaching workshops and masterclasses internationally for players of all levels and from diverse musical backgrounds.
'Stegmann proved one of the stars of the afternoon, especially with her superb performance of Vivaldi’s Concerto in C for soprano recorder which brought an added enthusiastic ovation after its virtuosic first movement.'
Since 2013 she is co-organising the Open Recorder Days Amsterdam; a biennale which has quickly grown into one of the biggest recorder events worldwide and which brings together recorder professionals and amateurs alike from all across the globe.
While recording CDs for labels such as Glossa, Pan Classics, GWK-RECORDS, Anna set up her own music video channel and programmed two seasons of her own digital recitals in 2020: “Fantasy & Design” and “La Suave Melodia”. With the Spanish baroque violinist Jorge Jiménez, she explores unconventional arrangements and new compositions for their setting. Their work has been described as “exciting, distinguished, and enthralling.” (Susanne Schulte, 2019)
As a soloist and with her own groups Ensemble Odyssee and the Royal Wind Music, Anna has toured throughout Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia and is regularly heard in notable venues and festivals such as the Boston Early Music Festival, Melbourne Recital Centre, Sydney Festival, Thüringer Bachwochen, Musikfestspiele Potsdam, and the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht. She has performed as a guest soloist with La Risonanza (Fabio Bonizzoni) and The New Dutch Academy (Simon Murphy) amongst others.
Born in Münster (Germany), she graduated at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (The Netherlands) in 2011 with distinction in the class of Paul Leenhouts, after finishing her studies with Winfried Michel at the Musikhochschule Münster and the Musikakademie Kassel (Germany).
