News Story
It is with great sadness we have learnt that Quincy Jones has died. In 2015, the Academy conferred an Honorary Doctorate upon Quincy at our Graduation Ceremony. Jonathan Freeman-Attwood, Principal of the Academy, pays tribute to the great musician and record producer:
‘Quincy Jones was a giant who gave the world so much extraordinary music. Until recently, he collaborated and supported colleagues in various projects – most notably Academy alum Jacob Collier.
'No one who was here in 2015 will forget how he talked to so many of us about his life and journey with such generosity, all brilliantly hosted by Nick Smart and Pete Churchill. We gave him an Honorary Doctorate at our Graduation Ceremony in 2015 – that day the roof nearly came off the church.’
