Congratulations to master’s student Olwen Miles on being awarded a RPS Instrumental Prize. Olwen received the RPS Emily Anderson Violin Prize, which has supported solo violinists for over six decades.
The RPS Instrumental Awards invest in the future of promising musicians as they embark on their professional careers. As a graduate of the LSO String Experience scheme, previous leader of the Academy Symphony Orchestra and winner of the Wolfe Wolfinston String Quartet Prize with the Regency String Quartet, Olwen will receive a grant of £1,500 towards developing her career.

Four additional students from the Springs Department join Olwen in celebration as they enter 2026. London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) recently revealed participants in the LSO String Experience, a scheme which enables young musicians to gain professional experience with the orchestra.
Participants in this year’s String Experience include Academy students:
Xinyuan He – Viola
Hamish Jamieson – Cello
Tom Amigoni – Double Bass
Noah Daniel – Double Bass
Participants will join LSO musicians as ‘extra’ players for professional rehearsals and concerts, receiving fees for their work and gaining access to the wealth of knowledge that the LSO has to offer. The scheme allows participants to make industry contacts, with around 20 String Experience alumni currently working as members of the LSO. The Academy offers congratulations to Olwen, Xinyuan, Hamish, Tom and Noah for their continued success.
