The Royal Academy of Music Brass department is delighted to announce the appointment of Katy Woolley as horn professor.
Katy will join the illustrious team of Michael Thompson (Aubrey Brain Chair of Horn), Richard Watkins (Dennis Brain Chair of Horn) and Martin Owen (Principal Horn in the BBC Symphony Orchestra) who is currently working as Solo Horn in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. International Visiting Professor Radovan Vlatkovich completes a line up of unrivalled prestige.
Katy is Principal Horn in the Philharmonia Orchestra and her appointment re-establishes the long tradition and connection between the Academy horn department and the Philharmonia. This lineage stretches back through Richard Watkins and Michael Thompson to Dennis Brain.
The range of expertise of the Academy horn professors covers the entire spectrum of horn playing: international soloist, chamber musician, orchestral principal and commercial session musician, all at the very highest level. This performing experience is allied to a totally committed and uniquely synergistic approach to horn playing at the Academy that will continue to offer the very best in tuition and guidance for the most aspiring young professional.
