Rebecca Hammond
MMus, PDOT, PgCert (HE), FHEA Visiting Assistant Professor of Historical Bassoons
Rebecca Hammond is a specialist in historical bassoons.
She is also a professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Rebecca has a distinguished international performing career, including a decade as co-principal bassoon with the French period instrument orchestra Les Siècles. She appears regularly with leading period ensembles including Academy of Ancient Music, The English Baroque Soloists, The English Concert, The Hanover Band, The London Handel Orchestra, The Gabrieli Players, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The King's Consort and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique.
She has performed at Glyndebourne Opera, Royal Opera House, Garsington Opera, Vache Baroque and Longborough Opera, and has toured with the Royal Danish Ballet and Hofesh Schechter. A founder member of The Oboe Band, she was part of its Residency at the Royal College of Music.
Rebecca has recorded extensively with ensembles including Les Siècles, The English Concert, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Hanover Band and Collegium Musicum 90. Alongside her performing career, Rebecca is an experienced mentor and coach, with a particular interest in supporting the development of early-career musicians. She is a member of the Royal Society of Musicians and the Musicians’ Union.
