Gavin Carr is recognised as one of the UK’s leading conductors, specialising in large-scale choral-orchestral repertoire and contemporary premieres. He is the conductor of the Philharmonia Chorus, the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, and Bath Minerva Choir, as well as the Founder-Director of Chorus Angelorum and The Carr Consort. Under his direction, these ensembles have achieved international acclaim through world-premiere recordings and regular tours. His orchestral collaborations include the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Bremen Philharmoniker, Symphony Orchestra of India, and the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra.

He began his career as a choral scholar at King’s College, Cambridge, before performing internationally as a operatic baritone, including lead roles with the English National Opera. Since switching his primary focus to conducting in 2001, he has built a strong reputation spanning the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary eras. He is noted for reintroducing Baroque music to major symphony choruses using historically-informed performance practices. His contemporary portfolio includes premiering major works by composers such as Richard Blackford and Paul Carr. He also serves on the vocal faculty at London's Royal Academy of Music.
