Gareth Coker

Gareth Coker is a British composer.

He is internationally acclaimed for his richly expressive orchestral scores for video games, film and interactive media. Renowned for combining memorable melodic writing with sophisticated orchestration and evocative sound design, Coker has become one of the most respected composers working in the games industry today.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, he later expanded his studies in film scoring at the University of Southern California, developing a musical language that bridges the traditions of classical composition with contemporary cinematic storytelling. Gareth's breakthrough came with Ori and the Blind Forest (2015), whose emotionally resonant score earned widespread critical acclaim and numerous honours, including the D.I.C.E. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, while also receiving BAFTA and other international award nominations. He returned to compose the equally celebrated soundtrack for Ori and the Will of the Wisps (2020).

His diverse portfolio extends across many of the world's leading game franchises, including Halo Infinite, ARK: Survival Evolved, ARK: Survival Ascended, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, No Rest for the Wicked, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and several Minecraft mythology expansions.

His scores frequently draw upon musical traditions from around the world, reflecting his time living in Japan and his interest in incorporating distinctive ethnic instruments and cultural influences into orchestral settings. Now based in Los Angeles, Coker continues to collaborate with leading game developers while remaining closely connected to the Royal Academy of Music, where he serves as a Visiting Professor of Composition.
