Valentina Peleggi has been Music Director of the Richmond Symphony (Virginia, USA) since the 20/21 season.

This season, Peleggi conducts Chicago Symphony at Ravinia, BBC Scottish Symphony, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and at Teatro Colon and Arena di Verona. She returns to Sao Paulo Symphony for an a capella concert. In recent seasons she has conducted the Dallas, Baltimore, New World, and Kansas City symphonies, Grant Park Music Festival, Royal Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liege, Nuremberg Symphoniker, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Norrkoping Symphony, Orchestra della Toscana, and Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano.

Opera (especially bel canto) is vital part of Peleggi’s activity; in May 2024 she makes her debut at Seattle Opera conducting Il Barbiere di Siviglia. She conducted Rigoletto at Teatro Verdi di Trieste and made her Opéra de Lyon debut in a new production of Piazzolla’s Maria de Buenos Aires in 2022. In 2021, she conducted Rossini’s Le Comte Ory with the Philharmonia Orchestra at Garsington Opera and was a Mackerras Fellow at English National Opera in 2018 and 2019, conducting a wide range of repertoire including Carmen and La Bohème.

She gained a Masters in Conducting at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome and pursued post-graduate conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London, going on to assist Bruno Campanella and Gianluigi Gelmetti on several opera productions.

Ms Peleggi is the recipient of the Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship 2015-2017, Bruno Walter Foundation Award, Gordon Foundation Award, and winner of the 2014 Conducting Prize Festival International de Inverno Campos do Jordão, and of the 2016 APCA Prize (Sao Paulo Society of Critics) as Conductor of the Year.
