Robert was appointed principal piccolo with the Philharmonia Orchestra in 2023.

Originally from Wiltshire, Robert began playing the flute aged seven. He went on to perform at county and national levels before studying at the Royal Northern College of Music and Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden, during which time he was a prize winner in numerous competitions, including the British Flute Society Young Artist award. After graduating, Robert embarked on a busy freelance career, working with the BBC Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé, Northern Ballet Sinfonia, Orchestra of Opera North, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and Ulster Orchestra, among others. In 2023, he joined the Philharmonia Orchestra as Principal Piccolo. When not performing, Robert teaches at the Royal Academy of Music and University of Manchester, and enjoys spending time with his fiancée Laura.
