Josie originated the role of Matilda in Matilda the Musical for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and sang 'Naughty' and 'I’m Here' on the Original Cast Recording. Her other professional credits include Marta Von Trapp in The Sound of Music at the London Palladium and Jemima Potts in a UK tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. She has performed in several cabarets at the Omnibus Theatre and in the Distillery Takeover at Taunton Brewhouse in There’s No Time (The World is Dying).
Josie has a first-class BA in English and Drama from the University of Exeter, where she enjoyed playing the title role in The Duchess of Malfi, performing for early years audiences and developing her devising skills.
She performed with musical theatre societies in productions such as Sweeney Todd and in a sold-out run of A Night at the Musicals at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Her other training includes performing with Young Pleasance, British Youth Music Theatre and passing ABRSM Grade 8 in classical singing with distinction.
Josie also teaches at LAMDA and directs youth theatre. She most recently worked as Director in Residence at Francis Holland School where, among many public performances, she directed and produced Little Shop of Horrors at Battersea Arts Centre.
Josie is the recipient of the Lionel Bart Foundation Award.
