In this video, the Echéa Quartet performs the second movement of Haydn’s String Quartet No 66 in G major, Op 77, No 1. The two Op 77 quartets are the last complete quartets written by Haydn and are said to show some of his greatest chamber music writing.

Since the Echéa Quartet was founded at the Academy in 2017, it has won the International Anton Rubinstein Chamber Music Competition, reached the final of the Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition, and was awarded the Eugenie Frost Chamber Music Prize by the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2019.

The quartet are now Chamber Music Fellows at the Academy. They perform a wide range of music including commissioned and contemporary works. Three members of the quartet perform on instruments from the Academy Museum’s historic collection.
