Tom is a member of the London Symphony Orchestra, appears regularly as a Guest Principal with numerous ensembles and is a keen chamber musician.

Tom studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and was the recipient of numerous awards. He joined the LSO shortly after graduating in 2001.

Tom has been a Professor at the Royal Academy of Music since 2015 and is highly sought after as a teacher. He assisted in the establishment of the Bass Department at the Junior RNCM and also taught at Chethams School of Music.

A passionate chamber musician, Tom recently performed with the Nash Ensemble live on Radio 3 at the Wigmore Hall and has also played with London Sinfonietta.

During 2011 Tom accepted the position of Section Principal Double Bass with the Royal Northern Sinfonia and enjoys being invited regularly to play guest Principal Bass with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC NOW, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Britten Sinfonia and John Wilson orchestra.

Tom served as a director on the LSO Board for 5 years and plays an exceptional John Lott Double Bass made in 1841.
