Susana works as the Head of Collections, overseeing and managing the Academy Collections.

She has over 30 years of experience working with museum collections. Her training includes a degree in conservation and restoration with a specialism in Musical Instruments, a Masters in Music with a major in History of Musical Instruments, and a Masters in Museum Studies.

Her experience as a Museum professional spans various areas, from planning a museum from inception in her hometown of Portugal to working as an Associate Conservator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, as a Museum Conservator at the Royal College of Music, and as a Collections Care Conservator at Eton College.

Building on strengths and expertise across the team and the wider Academy, Susana is a firm believer in interdisciplinary work and promotes collective meaning-making for the collections.

Susana has been connected with a wider network of professionals through the American Musical Instruments Society and ICOM Music.
