For many years, Susan has built a highly-regarded international studio in Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She also mentors young artists globally (IOA Gent, National Opera Studio, ROH Jette Parker Young Artist programme, CNSM Paris, universities in Brisbane and Manila, and Zürcher Hochschule der Künste). She has given numerous masterclasses throughout Europe, Philippines, and Australia.

Many of her current and former students are successful prizewinners, and work in all branches of the classical singing world as freelance soloists and in ensembles such as English National Opera, Exaudi, La Petite Bande, Le Jardin des Voix, Royal Opera House, The King’s Singers.

Susan is a RAM alumna, graduating with distinction as pianist. Subsequent opera studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama then led to immediate invitations from Aldeburgh Festival, English Bach Festival, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and others. After building a successful freelance solo career, as lyric soprano, she has devoted herself to the teaching of singing. Her first appointments were as Professor of Voice at Oxford and Cambridge universities. She has directed many collaborative, multi-discipline performance projects, and currently maintains her performer profile as an accompanist. Susan also undertook research in Brisbane related to Accent Method, and articulation.

In 2020 she founded the Virtual Opera Studio, an international online platform for ensemble performance, and solo workshop presentation.
