Born in London, John took up the trumpet at the age of 13

He continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and immediately began a very busy freelance career. He has worked with all the major symphony and chamber orchestras in London, and has toured throughout Europe, Russia, America, Brazil, Hong Kong and Japan.

In 2004 John was invited as soloist to perform at the Bastad Kammarmusik Festival, a contemporary music festival in Sweden. His work has been diverse; from recording Handel on the Baroque trumpet with The Kings Consort, to playing with the pop group Wet, Wet, Wet, and also playing for West End musicals and in television and films such as Lord of the Rings.

John has taught the trumpet at Junior Academy since 1995 and took up the post of Head of Brass at The Latymer School, Edmonton, in 2007. John has been a member of the City of London Sinfonia, under Richard Hickox, for fourteen years and has worked with the orchestra since 1984. He has made various solo and brass recordings, including both the Vivaldi Double Trumpet concertos, and participates regularly in the Orchestra’s Education and Community Programme and in CLS Development through Music.
