Jake Bigwood studied for a Bachelor of Music (Classical Performance – Vocal) at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). During this time, he had the pleasure of performing roles such as Polyphemus in Acis and Galatea, Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, Superintendent Budd in Albert Herring, and Monsieur Presto in Les mamelles de Tirésias. Concert repertoire includes Mozart's Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Fauré’s Requiem and Handel's Messiah.
After graduating from WAAPA, Jake gained a place with West Australian Opera and joined them for their 2018 productions of Carmen and Don Giovanni. He also made his professional debut with the independent opera company Freeze Frame Opera, where he played the role of Sciarrone and understudied the role of Angelotti in a production of Tosca. In 2019, Jake was the recipient of both the Evelyn and Ralph Thompson Scholarship and the Audience Choice Award at Art Song Perth.
In London, Jake has sung in Handel’s Messiah with the Philharmonia Chorus at the Royal Albert Hall, and accepted a role with British Youth Opera before its 2020 season was cancelled due to Covid-19.
