Fiona studied piano with British pianist Stephen Savage at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music

She later studied and taught at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In 1992 Fiona completed a MMus on scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music studying with Piers Lane.

She has performed and recorded much of the clarinet, violin and piano repertoire with the Zanfonia Trio, BBC Music Magazine praising their debut recording as a fine 5 star disc. Zanfonia Trio won many awards including the Tunnell Trust Recitals award, Countess of Munster Recital Scheme, Park Lane Group Recital and medal winners at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. Fiona performed and commissioned new repertoire with the Trio from 1993 until their final performance at the Wigmore Hall in 2002.

Fiona retrained as a radio journalist, graduating from Goldsmiths College in London with an MA in 2003, juggling journalism with examining, performing, session work and a large teaching practice. This included research for a book published by her boss, media magnate Peter Bazalgette (then CEO of Endemol UK) focussing on the history of the reality television programme Big Brother. The book Billion Dollar Game was published by Time Warner in 2005.

Fiona then left journalism to concentrate on her teaching studio, examining and her three young children.

She has a keen interest in film music/production and arrangement. She arranged and recorded a Chopin Waltz to be used in the Universal film 4321 and acted as musical advisor and coach to actress Tamsin Egerton — also appearing as a ‘hand double’ in the film.

Fiona continues to perform in commercial recording sessions — most recently for a themed (First World War) library album recently released by The Scoring House and plays regularly on her husband’s film and television tracks.

For a number of years she examined in the UK and abroad for Trinity Guildhall and now continues to accompany and teach privately alongside her teaching at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, where she has greatly enjoyed being on staff for over 20 years.
