Joe completed his master's degree, DipRAM and Professional Diploma at the Academy, and is currently writing his PhD on the performance practice of violin repertoire pertaining to the English Pastoral School in the early- to mid-20th century, under the supervision of Jonathan Clinch and Rodney Friend. Furthermore, he is a deputy lecturer at the Academy for a BMus elective module on British music and culture.
Joe is a passionate advocate for British music. He is the founder and director of the British Music Festival in Taiwan, which promotes British music abroad and fosters UK–Taiwan relations. In April, he released his debut album An English Pastoral on SOMM Recordings with pianist Eric McElroy, which includes world premiere recordings of music by Ivor Gurney and Ian Venables. The album is featured at No 9 on this week's Official Specialist Classical Chart.
An active orchestral musician, Joe also freelances with several UK orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
On his new appointment, Joe said: 'Having had the opportunity to perform with the orchestra recently, I have been deeply inspired by the warmth, musicianship and passion of my new colleagues. It is a real privilege to become part of such a historic and vibrant musical family.'
The Academy would like to congratulate Joe on his new role.
