Academy musicians appointed at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford

Alexander takes up the newly expanded position of Associate Choral Director, succeeding fellow Academy alum Helen Smee (formerly Director or Frideswide Voices). Alexander will not only continue looking after the day-to-day running of Frideswide Voices, the girls' choir of Christ Church Cathedral, but will also support Academy alum and Organist (Director of Music) Peter Holder with the wider provision of choral music.

Prior to his postgraduate studies at the Academy, Alexander studied as a Chorister at Southwell Minister and as a Choral Scholar at Royal Holloway, University of London. He was a member of the choirs of Norwich Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral (Conducting Scholarship) and New College, Oxford (Lay Clerk). His recent portfolio includes Assistant Manager of the BBC Singers and Director of Music of All Saints’ Putney.

Susannah Hill, current MA Choral Conducting student, will take up the position of Director of the Cathedral singers from February. She succeeds previous Academy master's alum Hilary Punnett, who was appointed as the new Assistant Director of Music at St Paul's Cathedral earlier this year.

Graduating from Music and Choral scholarships at Uppingham School and University of Cambridge (Trinity College), Susannah’s career has offered her experiences at a range of organisations. She currently works as Director of Music at St Peter’s Church (London Docks), is Founder and Musical Director of Rutland Youth Choirs, and is a soprano in the Choir of The Chapels Royal, HM Tower of London. Her regular work with National Youth Choirs and Sing Inside, a charity that provides singing workshops in prison, reflects her passion for creating music with young people and in the community.
