The Gramophone 2025 Awards took place in London last night and, as ever, there was strong representation from Academy musicians in a range of categories. Recognised as the benchmark of achievement in the classical recording world, these Awards celebrate exceptional recordings of the past year and honour artists, ensembles and record labels that have made outstanding contributions to the profession. We were proud to see Academy alumni Ben Glassberg, Edward Gardner, Robin Tritschler and George Xiaoyuan Fu presented awards in the Recording Categories.
In the Special Award Categories, Academy alum Sir Simon Rattle was announced as Artist of the Year and Visiting Professor Sir Thomas Allen was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award.
The Ivor Classical Awards celebrate creative excellence in British and Irish composing with 34 composers and librettists nominated this year. Academy alumni whose outstanding achievements in contemporary classical music have been recognised with a nomination include Robin Haigh, Ruby Colley, Jasper Dommett and Gareth Moorcraft. They are joined by Professor of Composition Helen Grime and Honorary Members of the Academy Dame Judith Weir, Jonathan Dove and Sir James MacMillan, who have also been nominated in this year’s awards.
Academy alumni permeate all areas of the music profession, and lead the way in concert halls, opera houses and theatres across the globe. We are hugely proud of the breadth and diversity of their careers, and the significant contribution our alumni make to the music profession and beyond. Discover their stories in the Alumni section of our website.
