Oboist and cor anglais player Patrick Flanaghan studied at the Academy as a scholar and was made an Associate in 2017. He is Principal cor anglais with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and cor anglais tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Orchestral musician, chamber musician, soloist and teacher Julie Price has held positions as Principal Bassoon with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. She will take up the role of Visiting Professor of Bassoon at the Academy.

American clarinettist and teacher Sonia Sielaff joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017 as Principal E flat/Sub Principal clarinet. Formerly a student of Yehuda Gilad at the University of Southern California, she also held the position of Associate Principal/E flat clarinet of the Norwegian Opera and Ballet Orchestra in Oslo from 2010 to 2017.

Oliver Phillips makes reeds for a number of UK oboists and supplies many of the world's leading orchestral players, and joins the Academy to teach oboe reed making. Oliver also works as a freelance oboist and has played as a guest with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Ulster Orchestra.

International flautist Silvia Careddu will join the department as Visiting Professor of Flute. Principal flute of the Orchestre National de France and a regular guest principal across Europe, she has previously taught in Berlin and was the unanimous winner of the Concours International de Musique de Genève in 2001.
