Guoping Jia is a composer, professor, and director of Institute of Musicology of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He has received the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) Scholarships, Young Teacher Award by Fok Ying Tong Education Foundation, Excellent Teachers Award by Baosteel Education Fund, Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, Golden School Emblem Award by the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing Excellent Teacher Award and many others.

As one of the most prominent contemporary composers in China, Jia has composed acclaimed chamber and orchestral works which have been played by ensembles and orchestras all over the world. These works have been published by Sikorski (Hamburg), Peters Edition Ltd. (London), People’s Music Publishing House, Central Conservatory of Music Press and Shanghai Conservatory of Music Press.

Strongly committed to cultural exchange between China and Germany, Jia has devoted vast energy to organise concerts and scholarly events. He initiated the annual Con Tempo Composition Competition in 2007. In 2011, with the support of the Siemens Foundation and the International Ensemble Modern Academy, he founded the Ensemble ConTempo Beijing, the first Chinese ensemble for modern music in which Western and Eastern instruments are combined. In 2015, he held the Music Critics Training Project promoted by the China National Arts Fund.
