In a live recording excerpt from April 2011, the late Peter Schreier conducts JS Bach’s Kommt, eilet und laufet, BWV 249.

This cantata, written for Easter Sunday, is based on a secular work the so-called Shepherd Cantata Entfliehet, verschwindet, entweichet, ihr Sorgen, BWV 249a, which is now lost, although the libretto survives.

This rousing excerpt of the final chorus, Preis und Dank, celebrates the Lord in praise and thanks, ‘Rejoice, you rescued tongues,

so that you are heard in heaven’ and calls for the drawbridges of heaven to be opened.
