BENEDICT BLYTHE Unquiet Cliffs

Unquiet Cliffs is an original sound installation, combined with live performance, which explores the uncanny, unfamiliar and disquieting characteristics of coastal landscapes. Inspired by the usually inaudible seismic movements of the unstable cliffs, the piece builds on techniques of data sonification and blends elements of sound sculpture, experimental field recording, and improvisation by musician performers. The piece aims to create an immersive environment for the audience, that not only communicates a deep understanding of soundscape and place, but also asks the listener to reconsider the nature of live performance and their role as participants in this.
