The world’s oldest-surviving instrument is a flute that is over 50,000 years old; in contrast, the modern flute as we know it was patented not even 200 years ago. Shapeshifting Silver is a celebration of the diverse dance repertoire written for the flute since the 1920s, and is a collaboration of Academy flautists, from first year undergraduates to second year masters students, who are joined by students from the London Contemporary Dance School. Spanning several genres including traditional ‘classical’ style, samba, beatboxing and EDM, expect a journey through the compositional styles of the last 100 years, original choreography, and limitless flute-playing possibilities.
