GLUCK Orfeo ed Euridice
The Orpheus myth, that of a person rescuing a loved one after death, appears in the mythologies of many cultures from across the world. In this new orchestration by Eric Davis, Academy students explore the cultural and temporal universality of the opera.
Euridice dies, Orfeo’s grief is so deep that he dares to descend into the underworld to bring her back, confronting furious spirits, impossible rules, and his own wavering resolve. Gluck’s radiant score blends heartfelt lyricism with dramatic intensity, creating an opera that feels both timeless and emotionally direct. With its soaring music, striking imagery, and a love story that pushes beyond the limits of life and death, Orfeo ed Euridice offers a moving, unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.
