PONCE Suite in A minor; Sonata III; Sonatina meridional
A seminal figure in the history of Mexican music, Manuel Ponce (1882-1948) composed extensive and beautifully idiomatic repertoire for the Spanish guitar virtuoso Andrés Segovia. This programme starts with a selection of short pieces written in the style of Baroque lutenist Sylvius Leopold Weiss, and continues with two sonatas on a more ambitious scale.
