Programme Details

In 1795, Haydn brought a groundbreaking acquisition from London to Vienna: a five-and-a-half-octave Longman and Broderip fortepiano. This instrument may have been one of the most influential piano sound references for Beethoven in the years to come. Elena Vorotko explores his ‘Pathétique’ Sonata on a similar instrument from the Academy’s Collections: the 1805 Broadwood fortepiano.
