PROKOFIEV Piano Sonata No 8 in B flat, Op 84

The second of our Advanced Diploma recitalists features the award-winning Welsh pianist Tomos Boyles, in a programme ranging from Chopin and Debussy to Prokofiev’s fierce, virtuosic Sonata No 8 – the last of his ‘war sonatas’ – and Ligeti’s beautifully jazzy etudes.

Having won the 2025 Dudley International Piano Competition, Tomos has been engaged for a number of recitals and concertos, including performances of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No 3 with the CBSO. After making his recital debut at Wigmore Hall last year, Tomos was recently selected as a Kirckman Concert Society artist for the 2026/27 season, which will see him give an evening recital at Kings Place, London. This year he was awarded the Academy’s prestigious Bicentenary Scholarship in support of his studies, and his debut CD for Linn Records featuring late Beethoven and John Corigliano will be released later this year.
