DVOŘÁK Serenade for Strings in E, Op 22
Magnus Johnston, Concert Master of the Royal Ballet and Opera, directs the first-year students of the Academy String Orchestra. The programme opens with Grieg’s ‘Suite in the olden style’ based on 18th-century dance forms. Tchaikovsky’s Andante cantabile is an arrangement of the slow movement from the composer’s String Quartet No 1, and is followed by Dvořák’s popular Serenade for Strings.
