Due to COVID-19 first round auditions will now be by video, for details about this please see the video audition section of the website.
Some audition requirements may change: please check back here regularly. You are welcome to contact the Admissions Team Team [or email@example.com] or the department administrator [or firstname.lastname@example.org] if you have any queries.
This year auditions are by video.
16 November: extended deadline to upload videos into the Acceptd portal, details are on our video auditions page.
You should offer a free-choice programme of solo piano music (not concerto repertoire) with a minimum of two works, and your programme should be 20 minutes long, in one take.
Once candidates’ audition videos have been reviewed by the Head of Piano and the piano panel, some candidates will be recalled for Zoom interviews.
Your audition video can include movements rather than complete works (ie a movement of a sonata), and should show a wide diversity of character and style, as well as evidence of technical accomplishment. We suggest including music in a classical or Baroque style; a romantic work; and something 20th century or contemporary.
Please note: Your programme should be played from memory, though complex contemporary music may be played from the score.
Along with your video of around 20 minutes, please include a list of all works played in your programme and your Spoken English item (detailed on the video auditions page)
You will need to create a profile in the Acceptd portal into which you upload your audition recording, the list of all the works in your programme and your Spoken English item. To upload your files into the Acceptd portal, you can find guidance on our video auditions page.
